When you view a message that is a reply, if the message contains bullets and numbers (applied in that order), the periods that should appear after the numbers are blank boxes instead.
This symptom occurs if all of the following conditions are true:
To work around this problem, do not use Word as the e-mail editor. To disable Word as the editor, follow these steps:
1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
2. Click the E-mail tab.
3. Click to clear (uncheck) the "Use Microsoft Word as the e-mail editor"
check box, and click OK.
To resolve this problem, obtain and install the Microsoft Outlook Service
Release 1 (SR-1) Patch, using any of the following methods:

You can order the SR-1 Patch on compact disc or on 3.5-inch disks on the Microsoft Web site. Note that you will be required to provide your Product ID (PID) number, which can be found in the About box (click About on the Help menu) in your current Office 97 program.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Outlook 97. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 97 Service Release 1 (SR-1).
