The information in this article applies to:
In Microsoft Outlook 97 the United Kingdom Late Summer Holiday is incorrectly defined for the years 1998, 1999, 2004 and 2005.
The Outlook.txt file has the incorrect days for these four dates.
Edit the file, Outlook.txt to correct the calendar dates for the occurrences of the Late Summer Holiday in each of the years mentioned and then reimport the United Kingdom holidays.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Outlook 97.
The Late Summer Holiday is observed in the United Kingdom on the last Monday in August. The month of August in the years 1998, 1999, 2004 and 2005 contains five weeks. The Late Summer Holiday is incorrectly entered in the Outlook.txt file as the fourth Monday. To correctly set the Late Summer Holiday for installations of Outlook which have not added United Kingdom holidays, follow these steps:
1. Click the Start button, point to Find and click Files and Folders.
2. In the Named box type Outlook.txt. Ensure that Look In box has the
entire hard drive selected. Click Find Now.
3. Double-click the Outlook.txt file. You may get a message that the file
is too large for Notepad. Click Yes to open the file in Wordpad.
4. On the Edit menu, click Find. In the Find What box type "Late Summer"
(without quotation marks) and then click Find Next.
5. Correct the incorrect date entries for the Late Summer Holiday
according to the following table:
Correct Dates Incorrect Dates
1998/08/31 1998/08/24
1999/08/30 1999/08/23
2004/08/30 2004/08/23
2005/08/29 2005/08/22
6. On the File menu, click Save and then click Text Document. Ensure
that the file name is "Outlook" (without quotation marks), and the
Save As Type is Text Document and then click Save.
To Import the corrected holidays, follow these steps:
1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
2. Click the Calendar tab and then click Add Holidays.
3. Click to select the United Kingdom check box. Click OK.
If the United Kingdom holidays have been added to the Outlook Calendar, follow these steps to adjust the incorrect dates:
1. Click the Calendar folder for which you wish to adjust the
Late Summer Holiday dates.
2. On the Go menu, click Go To Date and then in Date click to select August
24, 1998 and click OK.
3. Double-click the holiday and in Start Time click to select August 31,
1998.
4. Repeat the above steps changing the dates to correctly reflect the Late
Summer Holiday for 1999, 2004, and 2005.
The Late Summer Holidays for these four years will now appear on the
correct dates.
