NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate Workgroup/Other option. This option allows you to use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. When you start Microsoft Outlook 98 or initially connect to your SPRYNET Internet Mail server, you may receive the following error message:
You could not be logged on to mail server: servername.
Be sure your account information is accurate. If this problem
persists, contact your Internet Service Provider.
Following this message, you may notice that sent mail does not leave your
Outbox.
This problem may be caused by incorrect settings in the Internet E-Mail Service properties.
To troubleshoot this problem, follow these steps:
1. From the Windows Desktop, click Start, point to Settings, and click
Control Panel to open Control Panel.
2. Double-click the Mail And Fax icon. You may only have a Mail
icon if you did not install Fax services.
3. If you have more than one profile, click Show Profiles and on the
General tab, click the profile that contains your SPRYNET Internet Mail
settings.
4. Click Properties and on the Services tab, you should see the Internet
Mail service. If not, click Add to add the Internet Mail service.
5. On the Services tab, click Internet Mail, and then click Properties.
6. Click the Servers tab and in the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) box and in
lowercase, type:
m1.sprynet.com
7. In the Incoming Mail (POP3) box in lowercase, type:
m1.sprynet.com
NOTE: If your mail server information is different than listed above,
use the server names provided by SPRYNET.
8. In Account Name, type the user's e-mail name, and in Password, type in
your password. The e-mail password is all lowercase letters with a
number in the middle (example: dogs2cats).
9. Click OK, OK, and Close to close all dialog boxes.
Start Outlook and try to send a message.
SPRYNET's Internet Mail system currently uses one server for both receipt and sending of messages. If no server is specified in the Advanced Options of the original Internet Mail service profile, the Internet Mail server box will identify both the mail server from which you receive mail (incoming) and the mail server from which mail is sent (outgoing).
The server name must be typed into both the Incoming Mail (POP3) and the Outgoing Mail (SMTP).
