OL98: (CW) Error Starting Outlook Using MS Mail Service

The information in this article applies to:
NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the
Corporate Workgroup/Other option. This option allows you to use Messaging
Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your
installation type, on the Help Menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About
Microsoft Outlook you should see "Corporate" if you have the Corporate
Workgroup installation.
SYMPTOMS
When you start Microsoft Outlook 98 to connect to a Microsoft Mail 3.x or
Workgroup Post Office you receive the following error:
Outlook caused an invalid page fault in module Msfs32.dll
CAUSE
There is an older version of Microsoft Mail 3.x Support service installed
on your computer that is not compatible with Outlook.
RESOLUTION
Install the Microsoft Mail 3.x Support update from either the Outlook 98
compact disc or from the Outlook Web site.
To update the Microsoft Mail service on your computer, follow these steps:
- On the Start menu click Settings, and then Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs. Click Microsoft Outlook 98 and then
Add/Remove.
- In the Maintenance Wizard click Add New Components. Click to select
either From CD or From Web. This should match your original installation
method.
- In Outlook 98 Active Setup click Yes to: "Active Setup is about to
determine what internet components are installed on your computer.
Is this OK?"
- On the Microsoft Outlook Component Install page scroll to Mail
components and click to select Microsoft Mail 3.x Support. Click Next.
- In Component Confirmation and Installation click Install Now. Active
Setup will report progress while it installs new files.
- In Install Complete click OK.
