SUMMARY

When you add the Microsoft Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) Directory service to your Microsoft Outlook 98 profile, the default maximum number of matches to return when you perform a search is 100. Although there is no way to modify this setting through the Outlook interface, you can modify it in the registry.

MORE INFORMATION

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys And Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it.

  1. Quit Outlook.

  2. Click the Start button, and click Run.

  3. Type REGEDIT in the Open box, and click OK.

  4. Locate the following key and double-click to open it.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Messaging Subsystem \Profiles

  5. Click the plus sign ("+") beside the subkey (folder) which displays the name of your profile containing the LDAP service.

  6. Click each subkey (folder) of your profile subkey until you locate the value name, 001e6608, on the right side of the Registry Editor window. If the value data is not a number, continue your search.

  7. Double-click the value name, 001e6608, change the value data to the desired maximum number of matches to return when you perform a search, and click OK.

  8. On the Registry menu, click Exit.

  9. Start Outlook.

NOTE: If you use Microsoft Exchange Server version 5.0 or 5.5, the search limit can be changed globally within the Exchange Server Administration Program. The "Maximum number of search results returned" option is located on the Search tab of the "LDAP (Directory) Site Defaults Properties" dialog box at the site level, and the "LDAP (Directory) Settings Properties" dialog box, at the server level.
