OL98: (CW) Outlook Prevents Using Two Concurrent MAPI SessionsID: Q154917
|
If you use Microsoft Outlook 98 with another MAPI application and you start Outlook after the other application, Outlook uses the existing MAPI session instead of starting its own MAPI session.
Outlook was not originally designed for use with multiple MAPI clients. It was designed to recycle the existing MAPI session, such as WordMail.
A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft,
but has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to
systems experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely
affected by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for
the next release of Microsoft Outlook.
To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support
Services to obtain the fix. For a complete list of Microsoft Product
Support Services phone numbers and information on support costs, please go
to the following address on the World Wide Web:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/supportnet/default.aspThe English version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later:
Component: Outlook
File Name Version
-----------------------
Outllib.dll 8.5.5709.0
In order for this fix to work, you must add the value
IgnoreOtherMapiSessions to the Windows Registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\8.0\OutlookAdd the registry value name IgnoreOtherMapiSessions. This is a DWORD. Set the value data to 1. The value name is not case sensitive. The absence of the value name or the value data set to 0 results in the same behavior as without the fix. NOTE: If you contact Microsoft to obtain this fix, a fee may be charged. This fee is refundable if it is determined that you only require the fix you requested. However, this fee is non-refundable if you request additional technical support, if your no-charge technical support period has expired, or if you are not eligible for standard no-charge technical support.
