OL98: (IMO) ErrMsg: No Viewer Capable of Viewing FXO Files

NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Internet Mail Only option. To determine your installation type, on the Help menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Internet Mail Only" if you have the Internet Mail Only option installed.

SYMPTOMS

When opening a fax message in Microsoft Outlook 98 you receive the following error:

There is no viewer capable of viewing FXO files


CAUSE

Files with an .FXO extension are not associated with any Windows program.


RESOLUTION

To resolve the issue, follow these steps:

  1. Quit Outlook.


  2. Click Start, point to Find, and click Files or Folders


  3. In the Named Box type *.FXO and click OK.


  4. Click one of the .FXO files in the search results list, and while pressing SHIFT, right-click the selected file.


  5. Click Open With, and click Quick View.


  6. Click to select "Always use this program to open this type of file," and click OK.


  7. Double-click the .FXO file to view it.
