OL98: (IMO) Error Importing PAB Entries from .mmf File

NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Internet Mail Only option. To determine your installation type, on the Help menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Internet Mail Only" if you have the Internet Mail Only option installed.

SYMPTOMS

When attempting to import a Microsoft Mail 3.x (.mmf) file into Microsoft Outlook 98 using the Internet Mail Only (IMO) installation, you may receive the following error message:

Error Importing the PAB entries from file <path:\file name> [80040102]


CAUSE

This error message occurs when you have selected the option to import the Personal Address Book (PAB). The IMO installation of Outlook 98 supports the Windows Address Book (WAB) rather than the PAB.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.


WORKAROUND

You cannot import the PAB entries into the WAB. To import the mail messages without receiving the error message, click to clear the "Import personal address book entries" check box on the Import Mail Data dialog box.
