ID: Q187974

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to move a mail message from one folder to another by first copying the message in the source folder and then selecting the destination folder, you find that the Paste command on the Edit menu is not available.

CAUSE

Selecting the folder in the Folder List does not set focus for a Paste operation to that folder.

RESOLUTION

To copy a message from one folder to another, use either of these methods.

Copy Using the Clipboard

  1. Select the message to be copied. On the Edit menu, click Copy.

  2. Select the destination folder in the Folder List and then click in the Outlook Viewer or a message displayed in the Viewer.

  3. On the Edit menu, click Paste.

Drag the Message to a New Folder

  1. Right-click the message to be copied to a new folder.

  2. Drag the message to the new location in the Folder List. Release the mouse button when the destination folder is selected and click Copy on the shortcut menu.

MORE INFORMATION

These procedures apply to Task, Calendar, Notes, and Contact items and although Journal items can be copied in the same manner, they are only usable on the computer where they were created.
