(.pst file) to store your mail, follow these instructions:

 1. On the File menu, point to Open, and then click Other
    Personal Folders File (.pst).
 2. Select your Outlook File, and then click OK.

    mail to this Outlook File.
 6. Quit and restart Outlook 98.
 7. If you wish to remove the previous Outlook File from your list
of folders, right-click it, and then click Close.

------------------------------------------------------------
1.2 Preserving Rules when Switching to Internet Only Support
------------------------------------------------------------

Users upgrading to Internet Only Support from a previous Outlook 97
or Outlook 98 Beta configuration will need to import their old rules.

To import rules:

 1. On the Tools menu click Rules Wizard.
 2. Click Options
 3. Click Import Rules
 4. In the Import Rules From dialog, select your .RWZ file, which
is located in your Windows directory.
 5. Click OK to leave the Import Rules dialog.
 6. For each rule that moves messages to a specific folder, select
the rule and choose Modify, and then reselect the folder to
    move or copy messages to.
 7. Click OK to leave the Rules Wizard.

-------------------------------------------------------
1.3 Set up Exchange Again After Uninstalling Outlook 98
-------------------------------------------------------

When Outlook 98 is set up over an existing Exchange Client
or Exchange Server setup and subsequently uninstalled, you
must set up the Exchange Client or Exchange Server again
before it will function.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
1.4 Shut Down Exchange Server Services Before Installing Outlook 98
-------------------------------------------------------------------

If installing Outlook 98 on a computer running Microsoft Exchange
Server, be sure to shut down Exchange Server Services before
starting the installation of Outlook 98.

------------------------------------------------------
1.5 Install Outlook 98 and Microsoft Office 97 Locally
------------------------------------------------------

Outlook 98 does not support Run From Network Server or Run From CD
installations.

If you have previously installed Microsoft Office 97 in either of
these modes, you will receive a warning when installing Outlook 98
stating that Outlook 98 setup does not support this mode. All
Microsoft Office applications must be installed locally to allow
Outlook 98 to be installed.

--------------------------------------------------
1.6 Office Maintenance Mode Reinstall and Setup /y
--------------------------------------------------

After installing Outlook 98, if you perform a Microsoft Office
maintenance mode reinstall or a "setup /y" command from Office setup,
you may encounter object id warnings or .SRG warning messages.

These warnings can be safely dismissed and Office "setup /y"
or maintenance mode reinstall will complete successfully.

---------------------------------------------------
1.7 Office SR1 Patch Installation Does Not Complete
---------------------------------------------------

If you install Outlook 98, then try to run the Office SR1 patch, the
patch will not complete successfully. To correct this problem, follow
the steps in article Q177881 in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

===========
2. SECURITY
===========

-----------------------------------------------------------------
2.1 AutoSave Disabled when Composing Signed or Encrypted Messages
-----------------------------------------------------------------

The AutoSave feature is disabled when composing a message that is
indicated to be signed or encrypted. If you want to use the AutoSave
feature, you should only enable the signing or encryption just before
you send the message.

-----------------------------------------------------
2.2 Sign or Encrypt Message Before Adding Attachments
-----------------------------------------------------

To send a secure message that contains attachments, ensure that
signing or encryption is turned on first, and then add the attachments.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
2.3 Signed Messages can Only be Sent Using the Default Mail Account
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Outlook compares the email address from your default mail account
with the signing certificate from your security setting.

If you need to send signed messages with multiple mail accounts, you
should change your default mail account (through the Tools.Accounts
dialog) and choose the appropriate Security Setting (through the
Security tab of the File.Properties dialog) before sending your
signed messages.

----------------------------------------------------------
2.4 Beta Users: Export Keys Before Upgrading to Outlook 98
----------------------------------------------------------

If you are upgrading from Outlook 98 Beta 2 to final Outlook 98,
are using Outlook 98 Beta 2 with a Microsoft Exchange Server,
and are using Exchange Server Security, the following applies to
you:

Before installing final Outlook 98, you must export your security
keys from Outlook 98 Beta 2. After installation of Outlook 98
you should re-import these keys.

Step by step instructions:

Before installing the new build:

1) Go to Tools/Options/Security
2) Click "Import/Export Digital ID..."
3) Select the radio button to Export.
4) Use the "Select.." button to choose your Exchange Server
   security certificate
5) Select a name for your EPF file.
6) Enter a password of your choice (you will need this password when
   you import this EPF file)
7) Hit OK

Your security information is now saved in the EPF file. Install
this new build of Outlook.

On the new build:

1) Go to Tools/Options/Security
2) Click "Import/Export Digital ID..."
3) Select the radio button to Import
4) Choose the EPF file you have saved from your older Outlook build
5) Type in the password
6) Give this set of keys any name you wish to associate it with (This
is the keyset name - any name like <my keys> will work
7) Click OK

Your security information will now be stored in the new format by
Outlook.

3. MICROSOFT WORD AND MICROSOFT WordMail
========================================

---------------------------------------
3.1 WordMail Requires Microsoft Word 97
---------------------------------------

Outlook 98 supports the WordMail feature of Word 97. However,
Word 95 WordMail is not supported.

============================================================
4. Symantec WinFax Starter Edition and Microsoft At Work Fax
============================================================

-----------------------------------------------------
4.1 Overview of Built-in Fax Solutions for Outlook 98
-----------------------------------------------------

Users who wish to send and receive faxes directly from Outlook 98 will
use either Microsoft At Work Fax or WinFax Starter Edition, depending
on which configuration of Outlook they have chosen. Users of Outlook
98 with Internet Only Support will use Symantec WinFax Starter
Edition. Users of Outlook 98 with Corporate/Workgroup Support will use
Microsoft At Work Fax. For users of Microsoft At Work Fax, Outlook 98
includes an update that resolves a number of previously reported
errors in the program.

----------------------------------------------
4.2 Installing Symantec WinFax Starter Edition
----------------------------------------------

If you are using Outlook 98 with Internet Only Support, the WinFax
Starter Edition will be installed automatically if you were previously
using Microsoft Fax. If it was not installed automatically when
Outlook 98 was installed, you can install WinFax Starter Edition using
the Add/Remove Programs utility.

------------------------------------------------------
4.3 Sending Faxes with Symantec WinFax Starter Edition
------------------------------------------------------

To send a fax with Symantec WinFax Starter Edition, select
File | New | Fax Message or Actions | New Fax Message. Enter the
phone number you wish to fax to (see section 4.8), or address the
message to a Contact with a fax number. Enter the text of the fax
and attach any documents to be included in the fax. Press Send when
done. The fax will be sent immediately.

--------------------------------------------------------
4.4 Receiving Faxes with Symantec WinFax Starter Edition
--------------------------------------------------------

With Symantec WinFax Starter Edition, incoming faxes are immediately
posted to the inbox.

------------------------------------------------------------------
4.5 Faxing from Applications using Symantec WinFax Starter Edition
------------------------------------------------------------------

Symantec WinFax Starter Edition users can fax from applications such
as Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel by printing to the "Symantec
WinFax Starter Edition" printer.

----------------------------------------------
4.6 Storing Fax Numbers in the Contacts Folder
----------------------------------------------

Fax numbers in the contacts folder should be entered in canonical
format [for example:+1 (303) 555-1212] so that the Outlook phone
dialer works properly.

---------------------------------------------------------------
4.7 Cannot Send to Mixed Recipients with WinFax Starter Edition
---------------------------------------------------------------

With Symantec WinFax Starter Edition a Fax message cannot be sent to
both Fax recipients and normal email recipients at the same time.

----------------------------------------------------------------
4.8 Sending a Fax to a New Recipient with WinFax Starter Edition
----------------------------------------------------------------

With Symantec WinFax Starter Edition, if you want to send a fax to
someone who is not in your Outlook contacts folder, a one-off fax
number can be entered as follows in the "TO:" field of a new fax
message: fax@9w555-1212. The character "9" is used to access an
outside line and "w" causes the dialer to wait for a dial tone.

----------------------------------------------------------------
4.9 Upgrading to WinFax Pro from Symantec WinFax Starter Edition
----------------------------------------------------------------

If you plan to upgrade from WinFax Starter Edition to WinFax Pro,
please refer to the readme.txt in the valuepack\winfax directory for
upgrade information and a utility.

-------------------------------------------------
4.10 Install At Work Fax before At Work Fax Update
-------------------------------------------------

Outlook 98 Add Components page includes the At Work Fax Update.
This component fixes problems with existing At Work Fax. Users
currently running At Work Fax will have this component installed
automatically.

If you do not have At Work Fax installed, and are using Corporate
Support in Outlook 98, and wish to have fax capability, you must
first install At Work Fax via the Windows 95 Add/Remove Programs
Control Panel, and after that install the At Work Fax Update.

To install the Windows 95 At Work Fax Component:
 1. Open the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel
 2. Click on the "Windows Setup" tab.
 3. Check the checkbox labeled "Microsoft Fax"
 4. Click OK

Afterwards install the Fax Update from the Add Components
page. Note that the Fax Update will already be listed as
"Installed". Despite this choose to install it again.

=======
5. IMAP
=======

--------------------------------------------
5.1 Rules Wizard Does Not Function with IMAP
--------------------------------------------

The Outlook 98 Rules Wizard is not designed to function when used
with an IMAP mail server. Rules created in this scenario will not
have any effect.

The exception to this is Rules on outgoing mail. These will
continue to work with IMAP.

-----------------------------------------
5.2 Net Folders Do Not Function with IMAP
-----------------------------------------

The Outlook 98 Net Folders component depends upon the Outlook 98
Rules Wizard and thus will not function when used with an IMAP
mail server.

==============
6. NET FOLDERS
==============

-----------------------------------------------------------------
6.1 Two Computers Cannot Run Net Folders Against the Same Mailbox
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Net Folders will not run correctly if there are two machines running
Outlook with Net Folders against the same mailbox.

===============
7. Rules Wizard
===============

-----------------------------------------
7.1 Outlook 97 Rules Wizard compatibility
-----------------------------------------

The Rules Wizard extension available for Outlook 97 will not
successfully import rules created with the Rules Wizard in
Outlook 98. If you have Outlook 98 on one machine and Outlook 97
on another machine and they are both using the same Exchange Server
account, don't use the Rules Wizard on your Outlook 97 machine.

--------------------------------------------------
7.2 Upgrading from Inbox Assistant to Rules Wizard
--------------------------------------------------

The first time you use the Rules Wizard, it will offer to convert
and import any existing Inbox Assistant rules stored on the
Microsoft Exchange server. Inbox Assistant rules are deleted to
save space on the Exchange server once they are successfully
converted to Rules Wizard rules. If the Rules Wizard cannot convert
an Inbox Assistant rule, it will disable it, but not delete it.

The following types of Inbox Assistant rules will not be converted
to Rules Wizard rules:
1. Rules which look for multiple words separated by semi-colons in
the subject or body
2. Rules which look for specific forms (Advanced conditions dialog)
3. Rules which look for document properties (Advanced conditions
dialog)

--------------------------------------------------------------
7.3 Switching between the Rules Wizard and the Inbox Assistant
--------------------------------------------------------------

To switch between the Rules Wizard and the Inbox Assistant:

1. On the Tools menu, click Options...
2. In the Options dialog, click the Other tab.
3. Click the Advanced Options... button.
4. Click the Add-In Manager... button.
5. Check or uncheck the Rules Wizard.
6. Click OK.
7. Click OK in the Advanced Options dialog.
8. Click OK in the Options dialog.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
7.4 Filtering mail from people or distribution lists on the Internet
--------------------------------------------------------------------

If you are using the "from <people or distribution list>" or "sent
to <people or distribution list>" conditions in a rule, and you want
to check for messages sent from the Internet, you must pick the
person or distribution list from an address book (i.e. Outlook
Address Book, or Personal Address Book) for the rule to work
properly. Typing the e-mail address in the Rule Address dialog will
not guarantee the rule will work consistently because the rule will
look in the sender's or recipient's Display Name, not in the SMTP
address. This only affects Corporate/Workgroup users connecting to
an Exchange Server.

------------------------------------------------------------------
7.5 "with <specific words> in the sender's address" rule condition
------------------------------------------------------------------

Rules which have the "with <specific words> in the sender's address"
or "with <specific words> in the recipient's address" condition will
only fire on messages coming from the Internet. This condition looks
in the SMTP (Internet) e-mail address (i.e. username@domain.tld), not
in the Display Name. Rules with this condition will not fire for users
in your Company or Organization's Global Address List.

-------------------------------------------------------------
7.6 Rules which filter Read Receipts, Delivery Receipts, etc.
-------------------------------------------------------------

Rules which have the "uses the Report form" condition will not work
in Outlook 98. Report forms are Read Receipts, Delivery receipts,
Non-Delivery receipts, etc. The workaround is to use the Inbox
Assistant to create this rule.

----------------------------------------------------------------
7.7 Filtering messages from an Exchange Server Distribution List
----------------------------------------------------------------

Rules which have the "from a <Exchange Server Distribution List>"
condition will not work if the rule is a client-only rule. This
only affects Corporate/Workgroup users connecting to an Exchange
Server.

--------------------------------------------------
7.8 Filtering messages signed with S/MIME security
--------------------------------------------------

Rules which have the "with <specific words> in the body" condition
will not work if the message has been digitally signed with S/MIME
security.

=======================
8. H/PC Synchronization
=======================

----------------------------------------------------------------
8.1 Enabling H/PC Windows CE Inbox Transfer for Windows CE Users
----------------------------------------------------------------

Users attempting to use the "Windows CE Inbox Transfer" command
from within Outlook may encounter the following error:

"The command is not available. See the program documentation
about how to use this extension."

If you encounter this error, it may be corrected by running a
tool included on the Outlook 98 CD.

Two versions of this tool are included in the /Valupack/HPC
folder on the Outlook 98 CD.

If you are a Windows CE 1.x user, run the tool called hpcv1.exe.

If you are a Windows CE 2.x user, run the tool called hpcv2.exe.

================
9. ACCESSIBILITY
================

-------------------------------------------------------
9.1 Screen readers unable to read HTML Formatted E-mail
-------------------------------------------------------
Screen readers are unable to read HTML formatted mail items in
Outlook 98. When reading or composing mail items formatted in the
HTML format, Outlook 98 does not expose the text so that screen
readers can identify and read the text. Microsoft Outlook Rich Text,
Plain Text, and Microsoft Word mail formats all work properly with
screen readers.

Workaround: To enable the screen reader to access the text of an HTML
message, do the following:

1. Open the HTML formatted message.
2. On the Edit menu, choose Edit Message. (ALT+E, E)
3. On the Format menu, choose Plain Text. (ALT+O, T, Y)
4. Choose Yes, to change the format of the message.

Microsoft is aware of this problem and is working on updated
software which corrects it.
