OL98: Custom Form Icon Does Not Display in Table View

ID: Q182363

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Outlook 98, a large or small icon included in a custom form definition does not appear in a table view of the received message. Instead, you see the standard message icon.

CAUSE

Icons are not stored within items, but in a published form. If the form is not published to a location where it would be later available, then Outlook will use a default icon.

RESOLUTION

If you are working with a mail message form, the form needs to be published in the Microsoft Exchange Organizational Forms Library so that the published form is available to all users.

MORE INFORMATION

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Open a message form and enter design mode.

  2. Click the Properties tab for the form.

  3. Click Change Large Icon or Change Small Icon and choose a different icon.

  4. On the Properties page click to select "Send form definition with item."

  5. Publish the form to your personal forms library.

When you compose a message based on this form and send the form to someone else, the recipient will not see the new icon in the table view.

NOTE: If you are working with forms other than a mail message and the icon reverts back to the default Post icon, then the form most likely has become "one-offed." For more information about one-off forms, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
