OL98: Editing Contact Phone Number Causes IPF in Mso97.dll

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Outlook 98 when you modify a telephone number field in a Contact on a Compaq Presario computer, an Invalid Page Fault in Mso97.dll or in Kernel32.dll, may occur.


CAUSE

There is a problem in the Telephone Application Programming Interface provider (TAPI) that is pre-installed on the computer.


RESOLUTION

To remove the telephony service, follow these steps.

  1. Quit Outlook if it is currently open.


  2. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.


  3. Double-click Telephony.


  4. On the Telephony tab, click to select "Compaq Telephony Service Provider," click Remove, and then click OK.


  5. Close the Control Panel, and then restart your computer.



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Outlook 98.
