SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Outlook 98, when you change the font settings for Composing, Reading, Replying, and Forwarding e-mail, it does not apply when you use Microsoft Word 97 as your default mail format.

CAUSE

The font characteristics changes for Composing, Reading, Replying, and Forwarding e-mail only apply to Plain Text, HTML, and Microsoft Outlook Rich Text messages.

RESOLUTION

With Microsoft Word selected as your default e-mail editor, open a new message and change the default font.

MORE INFORMATION

Changing the default fonts used for Composing, Reading, Replying, and Forwarding e-mail, does not apply when Microsoft Word is used as your e-mail editor. Word bases all of its settings on document templates and does not use Outlook settings. The default document template used when Microsoft Word is your default e-mail editor is email.dot.

To change the default mail fonts when you use Word as your e-mail editor, follow these steps:

  1. Open a new mail message and click in the body of the message.

  2. On the Format menu, click Font.

  3. Change the settings to suit your needs and then click Default.

  4. Click Yes when prompted to change the defaults.

  5. You can either use the open message or close it without saving.
