OL98: Font Change in Preview Pane Not Immediately Updated

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Outlook 98, if you are using the Preview Pane and you make a change to the item "When composing and reading plain text", the changes are not immediately updated in the Preview Pane. To locate this option, on the Tools menu, click Options. On the Mail Format tab click Fonts, you will see this option under Message Fonts.

CAUSE

The Preview Pane is not refreshed immediately after making a font change.

RESOLUTION

You can manually refresh this view by switching to a new view in the current folder or switching to new view of the Inbox itself. In each case switching back to the Message view refreshes the font attribute. Restarting Outlook 98 will also refresh the font.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

1. Click to select the Inbox.

2. Turn on the Preview Pane option if it is not all ready displayed. On the

   View menu and click Preview Pane.

3. On the Tools menu, click Options and on the Mail Format tab click Fonts.

4. Under "When composing and reading plain text", click Choose Font and

   make the desired font selection and click OK three times.

The original font will be displayed. You can use the methods described in the resolution section above to display the new font correctly.
