MORE INFORMATION

McAfee VirusScan includes an E-Mail Scan option. This option integrates with MAPI and Internet Mail systems to allow for the automatic scanning of mail folder items and e-mail attachments.

Additions to Outlook Interface

VirusScan adds two items to the Outlook Tools menu: E-Mail Scan Properties, and Scan for Viruses. These same two items are also added to the Standard Toolbar. Additionally, VirusScan adds an Infected folder to your folder list.

E-Mail Scan Properties

There are two E-Mail Scan Properties dialog boxes. One you can access from within Outlook by clicking E-Mail Scan Properties on the Tools menu. The other is available as a property of the E-Mail tab of VShield on the Windows System Tray.

E-Mail Scan Properties from Within VShield

The E-Mail Scan Properties dialog box from VShield on the Windows System Tray allows you to specify your e-mail system, and the e-mail attachments to scan. Your e-mail system options are Microsoft Exchange (MAPI) or Internet Mail (Requires Download Scan, which is another McAfee component). You have the options to scan all folders or selected folders. You can scan all attachments or program files only, and you can specify types of program files to scan. You can also select to include compressed files in the scan. The VShield E-Mail Scan Properties also includes the Detection, Action, Alert, and Report tabs as described below.

The Outlook Add-In Manager will contain the "Exchange Scan" add-in when VirusScan is installed for your e-mail system, even if you are not using Exchange mail.
