OL98: Office Programs Not Available in Journal

ID: Q179737

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

On a multi-user computer, one or more users may not be able to use the Office programs with the Outlook 98 Journal. When a user clicks Options on the Tools menu, the Office programs do not appear in the "Also record files from" box on the Journal tab.

CAUSE

The logon profile for the user does not contain registry information for the Office programs installed on the computer. Because this information is not available to the Windows logon profile, the Journal feature in Outlook does not allow you to record files from the Office programs.

RESOLUTION

To set up the computer so that the Office programs appear in the "Also record files from box" for the user, log on to the computer as the user who is having this problem and run the Office Setup program with the /y switch. This will register the Office programs. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.

  2. In the Open box, type: <disk>:\setup.exe /y where "<disk>:\" is the CD-ROM drive that contains the Office Setup disc.

  3. When the Maintenance Mode screen appears, click Reinstall. Follow the instructions on your screen.

NOTE: Because Outlook 98 modifies the Office Setup information file, you will receive several Object ID error messages. Do not be alarmed. Continue with Setup.

After the Setup program has finished, the Office programs installed on the computer will be available in the "Also record files from" box on the Journal tab.
