OL98: Printing Item Using Toolbar Button Causes Manual Feed

SYMPTOMS

When you print an Outlook item using the Print button on the toolbar, the print job is unintentionally set to manual feed. The Print command on the File menu does not produce the same result.


CAUSE

A print style for the item you are printing may have the feed method set to manual.

Alter the print style to designate a feed method other than manual feed.

Altering the Outlook Print Style

To set the printer feed control, follow these steps:
  1. On the File menu, click Page Setup, and then click Define Print Styles.


  2. In Define Print Styles, click the style you wish to change and then click Edit.


  3. Click the Paper tab, and in the Paper Source list click the setting you want to use.


  4. Click OK and Close.


NOTE: The arrangement of printer settings on the Style dialog boxs may vary among different printer drivers. For example, Paper Source may be labeled as Paper Feed or Feed Method.

Changing the Global Printer Setting

In some cases, either a global driver setting, or a hardware control for the printer, may be set to manual feed. To check for a setting that has the printer default to manual feed, follow these steps:
  1. On the Start menu, click Settings, and then click Printers.


  2. Right-click the printer icon that you want to check, and then click Properties.


  3. Click the Device Settings tab, and inspect the feed settings for this printer driver to see if the default method is set for manual feed.


The arrangement of driver settings will vary depending on printer type and manufacturer. In addition, hardware settings, often addressed through the Printers icon in Control Panel, will vary as well. Consult the printer manual or manufacturer for more information.
