OL98: Problem with CompuServe Mail Messages with Attachments

ID: Q187557

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Outlook may stop responding when you attempt to process a message containing an attachment, from a CompuServe account.

CAUSE

CompuServe received a message containing an attachment on your CompuServe.com account and auto-forwarded it to your CSI (POP3) account. Outlook cannot process auto-forwarded items containing attachments.

RESOLUTION

Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE and manually end the Outlook task. Restart Outlook and have the sender address the message directly to your CSI (POP3) account.

-or-

Read the message and its attachment with Microsoft Outlook Express.

MORE INFORMATION

CompuServe may forward messages sent to your old CompuServe.com account to your new CSI (POP3) account. If these messages contain attachments, the auto-forwarding process does not translate them in a way that Outlook can read them. When you attempt to process these messages, by opening, forwarding, replying, displaying them in the preview pane, or taking other actions, Outlook will stop responding and you must restart it
