OL98: Sharing Not Available on Net Folders Objects

ID: Q183882

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

If you have Net Folders installed and receive an invitation to share information, when you attempt to accept the invitation, you receive an error message stating:

Net Folders is not available for this session.
When you check the File menu, Sharing has been added, but objects on the submenu (under Sharing) are unavailable, even though Net Folders is selected (checked) in the Add-in Manager.

CAUSE

The Net Folders extension depends on the Rules Wizard extension to process messages that are sent between Outlook users who share information.

During the installation, either the Net Folders add-in, the Rules Wizard add-in, or possibly both were not properly recorded in the Extend.dat file. This results in Sharing options appearing as unavailable.

RESOLUTION

In order to assure proper functionality of the Net Folders and Rules Wizard extensions, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options and then click the Other tab.

  2. Click Advanced Options and then click Add-in Manager.

  3. Click to clear (remove the checks from) the Rules Wizard and Net Folders check boxes.

  4. Click OK three times.

  5. On the File menu, click Exit, or click Exit and Log Off.

  6. Restart Outlook.

  7. On the Tools menu, click Options and then click the Other tab.

  8. Click Advanced Options and then click Add-in Manager.

  9. Click to select the Rules Wizard and Net Folders check boxes, and click OK three times to close the options.

  10. On the File menu, click Exit, or click Exit and Log Off, and restart Outlook.

The Sharing items should now be available.
