OL98: Shorthand Date Gives Warning Message in Flag Entry

SYMPTOMS

If you enter a shorthand date value greater than 12 into the Due by field of a message flag, you will receive the following warning message:

You must specify a valid date and time. Check that what you typed is both a valid date and a valid time, and make any necessary corrections.


RESOLUTION

Enter a valid date and time.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.


MORE INFORMATION

When you enter a shorthand date value between 1 and 31 into the Due by field of a message flag, it should resolve to that day of the current month. However, if you enter any value greater than 12, you will receive the warning message described in this article.

Steps to Reproduce the Problem

  1. Open a message in Outlook.


  2. On the Actions menu, click Flag for Follow Up.


  3. In Due by, enter a value of 5.

    The value resolves to that day of the current month, or "March 05, 1999" assuming the current month is March and the current year is 1999.


  4. In Due by, type a value of 13.
