OL98: The Office Assistant Cannot Currently Answer Your Question

SYMPTOMS

When you click the Help toolbar button, you may get the following message:

The Office Assistant cannot currently answer your questions. Run Setup again to make sure all the necessary Help files are currently installed


CAUSE

This error message occurs if you installed Microsoft Outlook 98 using the Minimal Installation.


MORE INFORMATION

The Minimal Installation of Outlook 98 does not include the Help files. To add these, run Setup in maintenance mode.

Install the Outlook 98 Help Files

  1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.


  2. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.


  3. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click to select Microsoft Outlook 98, and then click Add/Remove.


  4. In the Maintenance Wizard, click Add New Components.


  5. Click either Install from CD or Install from Web, depending upon how Outlook 98 was originally installed.


  6. Click Yes to allow Active Setup to determine what Internet components are installed on your computer.


  7. Click to select the Microsoft Outlook Help check box. Now is a good time to review the list and install any other components you may need.


  8. After you have made your selection(s), click Next, and when prompted click Install Now. If you had installed from the Web you will need to choose a download site before clicking Install Now.


  9. Click Yes after the download is finished, and then click Restart Now.
