CAUSE

This occurs for one of the following two reasons:

  • The file server where you are storing the file is offline.

  • or
  • Your access permissions to the server have changed which is preventing you from using the file server.

  • WHAT TO TRY

Make Sure That the File Server is Online

To make sure that the file server is online, follow these steps:
    1. On the Windows Start menu, click Run.

    2. In the Open box, type the name of the file server and the name of the share in the following format:

      \\severname\sharename

    3. Click OK.

    4. If you are prompted for a Username and Password, type in a valid name and password.

If the server is online, Windows Explorer will open the share folder. If not, you will receive the following error message:
The network name cannot be found.
If the server is offline, contact the system administrator for that file server to restore service.

    Verify File Server Access

You must verify that you have the necessary permissions to access and save files on the file server share. You need a minimum of Read (R), Write (W), Execute (X), and Delete (D) permissions. Check with the system administrator for the file server to see if you have the necessary permissions.
