PPT2000: All HTML Slides Numbered "1"

ID: Q226747

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you preview or save your PowerPoint presentation as a Web Page, the slide number for each slide may be incorrectly displayed as Slide 1 in your Web browser.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the slide number is rotated. Microsoft PowerPoint will generate a picture for each rotated text item, because most Web browsers cannot correctly display rotated text. PowerPoint incorrectly caches the picture for the Slide number of slide 1, and uses it for each subsequent slide.

WORKAROUND

Rotated page numbers will be displayed correctly if the presentation is saved in HTML for v3.0 browsers. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. On the File menu, click Save as Web Page.

  2. Click Publish.

  3. In the Browser Support selection, click Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator 3.0 or later, then click Publish.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft PowerPoint 2000.
