PPT2000: Cannot Use 8.3 Filenames With Presentation Broadcasting

SYMPTOMS

Even if you do not select the Use long file names whenever possible setting in the PowerPoint 2000 Web Options for a presentation broadcast, PowerPoint will ignore those settings and use the long file name for the presentation broadcast files.


CAUSE

The files that are created must use a long file name. Several global scripts are designed to look for a name in the "file name_slide0001.htm" format (where file name is the name of the presentation that the broadcast is coming from).


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
