PPT2000: Cannot View PowerPoint 2000 Web Pages on Macintosh Web Browser

SYMPTOMS

If you browse to a Web page created by PowerPoint 2000 and you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x for the Macintosh, you may receive the following messages:

This presentation contains content that your browser may not be able to show properly. This presentation was optimized for more recent versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer.

If you would like to proceed anyway, click here.
When you click to proceed, you will receive the following error message:
Internet Explorer Script Error

A script error occurred. Some scripts on the affected page may not work correctly. Do you want to continue running scripts on the affected page?
Regardless of whether you click Yes or No, the Web page will not display correctly, and you may only see wait, or Loading...please wait.


CAUSE

The Microsoft Internet Explorer browser for the Macintosh is not capable of displaying the script in Web pages generated by Microsoft PowerPoint 2000.


RESOLUTION

Publish your Web page in a format that is compatible with the Macintosh browser. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. In PowerPoint, click Save as Web Page on the File menu.


  2. Click Publish.


  3. In the Publish as Web Page dialog box, click All browsers listed above (creates larger files) in the Browser Support choices.


  4. Republish your Web page to your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or Web server.



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
