PPT2000: Error Message:"There's an error in .asd file used by Rex"

ERROR MESSAGE

When you attempt to start a Presentation Broadcast, you receive the following error message:

There's an error in .asd file used by Rex.
NOTE: Microsoft Office 2000 has built-in functionality that allows you to get more information about difficult-to-troubleshoot alerts or error messages. NOTE: If you reached this article by clicking the Web Info button in an error message, you already have Customizable Alerts enabled.


CAUSE

This is caused by an error in either the Audio.asd or Video.asd file. One or both of these files has become corrupt and needs to be replaced.


WHAT TO TRY

To resolve this problem, repair Office 200.

Repair Office 2000

First, locate and rename the Audio.asd and Video.asd files on your computer.

Rename *.asd Files

To rename the ASD files, follow these steps:
  1. On the Windows Start menu, point to Find, then click Files or Folders.


  2. In the Named box, type in *.asd. Then, click Find Now.


  3. In the Find dialog box, right-click the Audio.asd in the ..\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office folder and click Rename.


  4. Rename the file to Audioasd.old.


  5. Repeat steps three and four for the Video.asd file.


Run Office 2000 Repair.

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, please consult your product documentation to complete these steps.

Steps to Repair Office 2000
  1. Close all programs that are open.


  2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.


  3. In Control Panel, double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.


  4. In the Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box, click your Microsoft Office 2000 installation, and then click Add/Remove.


  5. In the Microsoft Office 2000 Maintenance Mode dialog box, click Repair Office.


  6. In the Reinstall/Repair Microsoft Office 2000 dialog box, click to select Repair errors in my Office installation, and then click Finish.


  7. When the Office Repair is finished, you may be prompted to restart Windows. If you are, click Yes and let Windows restart.
