PPT2000: Hyperlink Includes Text after Punctuation

SYMPTOMS

If you type a hyperlink in a text box and the hyperlink is followed by any form of punctuation (such as a period, colon, semicolon, or exclamation point) followed immediately by more text without a space between the punctuation at the end of the hyperlink and the text after the punctuation, both the hyperlink path and one word of the text following the punctuation will automatically become the hyperlink text. The actual link will not appear correctly and will not link to the desired web location.

Example If you were to type in the following hyperlink into a PowerPoint text box, the text "http://www.microsoft.com,and" will be converted into a hyperlink, which will point to the incorrect hyperlink address:

The link is at: http://www.microsoft.com,and the file...

WORKAROUND

To prevent this problem you must type a space after the punctuation character. Using the previous example, type the following:

The link is at: http://www.microsoft.com, and the file...

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in PowerPoint 2000.
