PPT2000: Join NetMeeting Button Doesn't Join Online Broadcast

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you are scheduled to join a PowerPoint 2000 online broadcast and you receive a reminder to attend that broadcast, the option to Join NetMeeting may appear. When you click this button, you will receive the following error message:

Microsoft Outlook

Cannot Start the Conference.
NOTE: This problem only occurs with Outlook 98.


CAUSE

Microsoft Outlook 98 incorrectly lists Join NetMeeting as an option. The online broadcast cannot be accessed through this button.


RESOLUTION

Instead of clicking Join NetMeeting, click Open This Item. When the original invitation opens, click on the hyperlink listed as the Event Address (URL):.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem does not occur with Microsoft Outlook 2000.
