PPT2000: Pictures Displayed as Black Boxes

SYMPTOMS

If you open a PowerPoint presentation that was created using a previous version of PowerPoint, pictures in the presentation may be displayed as solid black rectangles in PowerPoint 2000.


CAUSE

These picture have been recolored in an earlier version of PowerPoint, and the recolor information has been incorrectly interpreted when the presentation was updated to the PowerPoint 2000 format.


WORKAROUND

The original picture information can be recovered; however, black and white colors may be inverted. Use the following method to recover the original picture information.

  1. Click the picture to select it.


  2. On the View menu, point to Toolbars, and make sure that Picture is selected.


  3. On the Picture tool bar, click Reset Picture.


The only other workaround is to reinsert the picture into PowerPoint.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft PowerPoint 2000.
