PPT2000: Server Busy Error when Importing Clips into Clip Gallery 5.0

SYMPTOMS

When you import new clips into Clip Gallery 5.0, you may get the following error:

Server Busy. This action cannot be completed because the "Microsoft PowerPoint - Presentation Name" program is busy. Click the appropriate button on the task bar to activate the program and correct the problem.

Where Presentation Name is the name of the active presentation open in PowerPoint 2000.

If you click Retry, nothing happens. However, if you click Cancel, the error will go away for a few seconds, then it will return. If you click Cancel four to five more times, eventually the clip will import into Clip Gallery 5.0.


CAUSE

This error occurs when the More Autoshapes dialog box is open and you have activated Microsoft Clip Gallery 5.0 by using one of the following PowerPoint Slide placeholder layouts:

The More Autoshapes feature is a Clip Gallery 5.0 function that provides extra Autoshapes for use with the Office 2000 applications.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, close the More Autoshapes dialog box before double-clicking the clip art placeholder on the slide layout.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Clip Gallery 5.0.
