PPT97: Conflict with NeoMagic 128XD Graphics Chip

SYMPTOMS

While working with a PowerPoint presentation, you may receive the following error message:

   This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
   If the problem persists contact the program vendor.

When you click Details, you receive the following error message:

   Powerpoint caused a general protection fault in module NMGC.DRV at
   0001:00003a36.

CAUSE

This problem is caused by a conflict with the NeoMagic video driver.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, you must obtain an updated driver from your video card manufacturer. Contact the manufacturer of your video card to determine if there are newer versions available. The phone number should be in the manuals that came with the video card or with your personal computer.

To work around this problem temporarily, you can disable video acceleration by following these steps:

 1. On the Start menu, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.

 2. Double-click the System icon.

 3. Click the Performance tab, and click Graphics.

 4. Move the Acceleration slider bar to None.

 5. Click OK twice.

 6. When you are prompted, click Yes to restart your system.
