PPT97: Duplicate Animations on Web Based Presentations

ID: Q178564

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

After saving a presentation as HTML, you may notice that some of the objects that have No Effect defined, play an animation. When you view this presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint, the animation behaves as expected. The object with No Effect defined does not animate.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if you make a duplicate of a slide that contains a defined animation, and then change that defined animation to No Effect. So, when you save this presentation as HTML, the duplicated slide uses the originally defined animation setting and not the No Effect setting.

WORKAROUND

Method 1: Recreate the Slide

For the animation effects to play as expected, you can recreate that slide manually.

Method 2: Turn Off the Animation

Instead of changing the animation effect to No Effect, turn the animation off. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click the object for which you want to have no animation effect.

2. On the Slide Show menu, click Custom Animation.

3. Click the Timing tab.

4. In the Start Animation section, click to select the Don't Animate

   button.

5. Click OK.

Now, when you save this presentation as HTML, the animation effects should behave as expected.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

1. Create a blank PowerPoint presentation with a Bulleted list slide.

To do this, follow these steps:

    a. On the File menu, click New.

    b. Click Blank Presentation in the New Presentation dialog box, and
       click OK.

    c. Click the Bulleted List AutoLayout and click OK.

2. Add some text to the Title AutoLayout and the Bulleted List AutoLayout.

3. Apply the Fly From Left animation to the Bulleted List. To do this,

   follow these steps:

    a. Click the Bulleted List AutoLayout to select it.

    b. On the Slide Show menu, click Custom Animation.

    c. On the Effects tab, in the Custom Animation dialog box, click the
Entry Animation And Sound drop-down arrow and click the Fly From
       Left effect; then, click OK.

4. On the Insert menu, click Duplicate Slide.

5. Remove the animation effect from the Bulleted List on slide 2. To do

   this, follow these steps:

    a. On slide 2, click the Bulleted List AutoLayout to select it.

    b. On the Slide Show menu, click Custom Animation.

    c. On the Effects tab, in the Custom Animation dialog box, click the
Entry Animation And Sound drop-down arrow and click No Effect; then,
       click OK.

6. Save the presentation using the PowerPoint animation player. To do this,
   follow these steps:

    a. On the File menu, click Save as HTML.

    b. Click Next. This should bring you to the Choose Graphic Type portion
       of the wizard.

    c. Click the PowerPoint animation option, click Finish, and then click
       Don't Save.

7. Open your Web browser. On the File Menu, click Open and browse to the
Presentation 1 folder on the drive C. Open the folder and select
   Index.htm.

8. When the page opens, click "Click here to start." Click anywhere on
the page and the animations start to execute. When you go to the next
slide, the Fly From Left animation executes. This should not happen
because you disabled the effect on the second slide when the
   presentation was created.
