PPT97: How to Decrease the Size of Sound Files

If you have embedded sound files in your presentation, you can greatly reduce the size of these files by converting them to the Microsoft Adaptive Delta Pulse Code Modulation format (ADPCM). Sound files that use the ADPCM compression format take up less disk space.

You can convert sound files to Microsoft ADPCM format before you add them to your presentation, using these steps:

 1. Start Sound Recorder.

 2. On the File menu, click Open.

 3. Click the name of the file you want to compress and then click Open.

 4. On the File menu, click Properties.

 5. Click Convert Now.

 6. From the Format list, click Microsoft ADPCM, and then Click OK.

 7. Click OK again.

 8. On the File menu, click Save As.

 9. Save the converted file with a new name so that you do not overwrite
    the original, and then click OK.
