You can embed a table from Microsoft Word into Microsoft PowerPoint in several different ways. These methods have different maximum numbers of rows and columns that you can add. This article includes information about what these limits are as well as a method to get around the limit.

NOTE: Although it is possible to get around these limits, it is typically not a good idea. For example, if you create a presentation with a Word table that contains 20 rows and 40 columns, the text in this table is going to be very difficult for your audience to read.

Word Placeholder Limit

When you create a slide that has a Word table placeholder on it and you double-click the placeholder, you are prompted to select the number of rows and the number of columns in your table. The following table lists the different table size limits for PowerPoint 97:

Word Table Button Limit

If you use the Word table button on the Standard toolbar, the following limits exist:

How to Insert a Word Table

To insert a Word table that contains a larger number of rows and/or columns, follow these steps:

1. On the Insert menu, click Object.

2. Click Word Document Object. This creates a Word object on your slide.

3. On the Table menu, within Word, click Insert Table. This opens a

   dialog box that allows you to specify the number of rows and columns as
   well as the column width.

4. At this point, you can resize the object window and even adjust the
   cell height and width (using the Table menu).
