WD: Information on the WordBasic FileTemplates .Store Argument

ID: Q228716

The information in this article applies to:

SUMMARY

When you record a WordBasic macro that attaches a template to a document, the macro records a command line similar to the following:

FileTemplates .Store = 0, Template = "<Template Path and Name>"
There is no information that can be found for the .Store argument in online Help for Word 6.x or Word 95.

MORE INFORMATION

In Word version 2.x, the .Store argument refers to where you want to store your new styles, macros, and so on. In Word 6.x and Word 95, the .Store argument of the FileTemplates command is no longer used as a valid argument.

In Word 6.x and Word 95, you can have any number of global templates, not just Normal.dot (although Normal.dot is the default template), and the Organizer allows you to copy user-defined entries to other templates. Because new entries are placed in the template attached to your document, the .Store argument no longer serves any useful functionality in Word 6.x and Word 95.

The argument remains in Word 6.x and Word 95 for backward compatibility with Word version 2.x.

In Word version 2.x, the .Store arguments are as follows.

Argument Description
------------------------------------------------------------------------

0 New entries are stored as global.
1 New entries are stored in the template currently attached to
            the document.
2 Every time a new entry is created, Word asks explicitly
where that entry should be stored or if it should be attached
            to the current document's template.
