SYMPTOMS

When you try to print multiple pages per sheet, or when you click Print Preview on the File menu, the following error message may appear:

Out of stack space.
NOTE: If you try to print multiple pages per sheet, Word prints each page on a separate sheet instead of printing multiple pages on a single sheet.

WORKAROUND

Use one of the following methods as appropriate for your situation.

Method 1: Turn off Word add-ins.

This problem can occur with a file from a Word add-in that is loaded from the \Word\Startup folder. To prevent this problem, remove the add-in file or files from the Word 2000 startup folder.

The default path for the Word 2000 startup folder is as follows:

On Windows 95 and later:
C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP
On Windows NT:
C:\WINNT\Profiles\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP
NOTE: This problem has been reported to occur with the Bdstart.dot template located in the \Word\Startup folder. You may need to use Windows Explorer to search for Bdstart.dot and move any of these templates into a folder that is not in any Startup folder. The Bdstart.dot template is installed by Office By Design, published by Streetwise Software.

Method 2: Install Windows Script Support.

It has been reported that installing Windows Script Support resolves this problem in some cases. However, if this does not resolve the problem, you need to use method 1.

Windows Script provides an integrated script platform for Windows for use in your Web browser and other Windows applications. Included in this release are new versions of Visual Basic Scripting Edition (VBScript), JScript, the Windows Script Runtime, Windows Script Components, and Windows Script Host.
