The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

After you create and save an AutoText entry containing a picture or WordArt object, when you insert the AutoText entry, the picture or WordArt object may not appear in the Preview pane on the AutoText tab.

To preview an AutoText entry, point to AutoText on the Insert menu and then click AutoText. The Preview pane is located on the AutoText tab.

CAUSE

The Preview pane on the AutoText tab is designed to display only pictures or WordArt objects that have a wrapping style of In line with text. Pictures or WordArt objects with any of the following wrapping styles do not appear in the AutoText Preview pane:

WORKAROUND

Use one of the following methods to work around this problem:

Method 1: Ignore the preview pane.

When your picture or WordArt object has a wrapping style other than In line with text, the text of your document will wrap around your AutoText entry. When you insert the AutoText entry, your picture or WordArt object will not appear in the Preview pane on the AutoText tab; however, the picture or WordArt object will be inserted correctly with your AutoText entry.

Method 2: Convert the picture (or WordArt object) to "In line with text".

Using this method does not allow the text of your document to flow around the picture or object as you may want.

To change your AutoText picture or WordArt object to In line with text, use the following steps:
  1. On the Insert menu, point to AutoText and click AutoText.

  2. On the AutoText tab, click to select the AutoText entry containing the picture or WordArt object you want to appear in Preview.

  3. Click Insert. This inserts the AutoText entry into your document.

  4. Click to select the picture or WordArt object.

  5. On the Format menu, click Picture (or WordArt).

  6. On the Layout tab, click to select In line with text.

  7. Click OK.

  8. Click to select the picture or WordArt object.

  9. On the Insert menu, point to AutoText and then click AutoText.

  10. In the AutoText entries list, click to select the AutoText name for your AutoText and then click Add.

  11. When the following prompt appears, click Yes.

  12. Do you want to redefine the AutoText entry?
Now when you point to AutoText on the Insert menu and click AutoText, when you click to select your AutoText entry, the picture or WordArt object appears in Preview on the AutoText tab.
