WD2000: Border Between Paragraphs Fails to Appear in Browser

ID: Q203904

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you apply borders between paragraphs (on the Format menu, click Borders and Shading, and then click Borders) and then save your document as a Web Page, the border between paragraphs does not appear.

CAUSE

The border between paragraphs will not appear in a browser if any of the paragraph's Style formatting contains borders that differ from the paragraph's manually applied borders (direct formatting of the paragraph).

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, you can create a custom style that contains the borders between paragraphs and then apply your custom style to the paragraphs you want to apply a border to.

The quickest way to create a new paragraph style is to format a paragraph, select it, and then base the new style on the formatting and other properties applied to the selected text.

To create a new style based on a selection:

  1. Select the text that contains the formatting you want to use for your style.

  2. On the Formatting toolbar, click inside the Style box.

  3. Type over the existing style name to create the name for the new style.

  4. Press ENTER.

  5. NOTE: You can set additional formatting characteristics for paragraph styles, such as the style for the next paragraph. On the Format menu, click Style. Click the style that has the settings you want to change, click Modify, and then select the options you want.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
