WD2000: Custom Templates and Wizards Deleted When Word 2000 Installed

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Word 2000, templates that you previously modified may be overwritten with the templates that are included with Word 2000.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when your modified template or wizard has a modified date that is older than the template or wizard that is included with Word 2000, and Word 2000 templates and wizards are set to be installed on first use.

NOTE: When you run Setup, you can use the Installed on First Use option to select which Word 2000 features you want to be installed when you use the feature for the first time.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, modify the file so that its modified date is later than 3/10/99. To do this, you can open the file and then save the file without making any changes. The modified date will be changed to the date when you save the file.

NOTE: This workaround is only valid before Word is run for the first time.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
