WD2000: Header and Footer Text Incorrectly Removed Deleting Section Break

ID: Q206303

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you delete the first section break in a document that contains multiple section breaks, and each section contains unique text in its headers and/or footers, all header and footer text is removed from the entire document.

This happens even if you have the Same as Previous option turned off for each section of the document.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, turn on the Same as previous option for all headers and footers in the document.

  1. On the View menu, click Header and Footer.

  2. On the Header and Footer toolbar, go to each header and footer by clicking the Show Next button.

  3. On the Header and Footer toolbar, click to switch on Same as Previous. (NOTE: If the Same as Previous button is unavailable or dimmed, you are in the first section of the document.)

  4. Repeat steps 2-3 for each section in the document.

  5. Click Close.

You should now be able to delete the first section of the document while retaining the header and/or footer text.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
