WD2000: PaperPort Not Available After Installing Word 2000

SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft Word 2000, ScanSoft PaperPort is not available in Word as it was in Microsoft Word 97 for Windows.

NOTE: This problem occurs even after you reinstall ScanSoft PaperPort Deluxe.


CAUSE

Word 2000 has changed the location where add-in files are stored. In order for ScanSoft PaperPort to be loaded when Word 2000 starts, the PaperPort add-in files must be installed to the Word Startup folder.

During the installation of Word 2000, add-in files located in the Startup folder of Word 97 for Windows are not migrated to the Startup folder of Word 2000.


WORKAROUND

ScanSoft PaperPort installs add-in files into the following location for Word 97 for Windows:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Startup
After you have installed Word 2000 (or Microsoft Office 2000), copy the add-in files from the "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Startup" folder to the following folder for Word 2000:
C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\Startup
