ID: Q220348

SYMPTOMS

After you save a Word document containing text formatted as small caps as a Web page and then resave the Web page document as a Word document, text formatted as small caps is now formatted as all caps.

CAUSE

Microsoft Word does not retain the small caps formatting information when you resave the Web page as a Word document.

NOTE: Small caps are not supported in Web pages. When you save a Word document containing text formatted as small caps as a Web page, the small caps formatting is changed to all caps.

WORKAROUND

After you save your Web page as a Word Document (*.doc) (on the File menu, click Save As), reapply small caps to the text that you want to appear as small caps, using the following steps:

  1. Select the text that you want to appear as small caps.

  2. On the Format menu, click Font.

  3. On the Font tab, click to select Small caps.

NOTE: When you click to select the Small caps check box, the All caps check box is automatically cleared.

  4. Click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
