WD2000: Some Features Not Available Even When Supported by Web Browser

SYMPTOMS

When you work in a Microsoft Word 2000 document, certain features may not be available even though those features are supported in your Web browser.


CAUSE

This functionality is by design and is controlled by the setting of the Disable features not supported by option in Microsoft Word 2000.

Some formatting that you can use in Microsoft Word 2000 may not be supported by some Web browsers. When you save a Word document as a Web page, Word can remove unsupported formatting and apply formatting that Web browsers support.


WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use one of the following methods appropriate for your situation:

Method 1: Turn Off Features Not Supported in Web Browser

To create Web pages that use formatting supported only by specific browsers, set the Disable features not supported by option using the following steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.


  2. On the General tab, click Web Options.


  3. On the General tab, click to select the Disable features not supported by check box.


  4. In the Browser box, select the browser you have installed.

    NOTE: By default, Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 is selected.


  5. Click OK to close the Web Options dialog box.


  6. Click OK to close the Options dialog box.


Method 2: Turn On Features Supported in Web Browser

To create Web pages that use the full formatting capabilities in Microsoft Word 2000, turn off the Disable features not supported by option using the following steps:

NOTE: When you turn this option off, some formatting features in Microsoft Word 2000 may not be viewable in your specific Web browser.
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.


  2. On the General tab, click Web Options.


  3. On the General tab, click to clear the Disable features not supported by check box.


  4. Click OK to close the Web Options dialog box.


  5. Click OK to close the Options dialog box.
