SYMPTOMS

When you upgrade to Microsoft Word 2000 over an earlier version of Microsoft Word for Windows, the compatibility options are set to the earlier version of Word.

CAUSE

This functionality is by design. When you upgrade to Microsoft Word 2000 over an earlier version of Word, Word retains the settings and compatibility options for the earlier version of Word.

For example, when you upgrade Microsoft Word 97 to Microsoft Word 2000, the compatibility options in Microsoft Word 2000 are set for Microsoft Word 97.

WORKAROUND

To change the compatibility options in Word, do the following:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

  2. On the Compatibility tab, change the Recommended options for box to Microsoft Word 2000 and then click OK.

MORE INFORMATION
