WD2000: VBE Run-Time Error "5889" Using Publications Templates

SYMPTOMS

When you use one of the Publications templates supplied with Word, the following error message appears:

Run-time error '5889': Requested PaperSize is not available on the current selected printer.
If you click Debug, the template macro has halted on the following command line: 

ActiveDocument.PageSetup.PaperSize = wdPaperLetter


CAUSE

You do not have a default printer installed.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install a printer for the Windows operating system.

To set up a printer, do the following:

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, please consult your product documentation to complete these steps.

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Printers, and then double-click Add Printer.


  2. Follow the instructions on the screen.


  3. If you want to print a test page, first make sure your printer is turned on and ready to print.


NOTE: If you want to use a shared network printer, you can set it up quickly by browsing for it in Network Neighborhood, clicking the printer's icon, and then clicking Install on the File menu.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
