To work around this problem, you can display the Insert Picture dialog box, capture the selected file name, and use the AddPicture method to link the selected graphic.

The following sample Visual Basic for Applications procedure demonstrates this method:

Sub LinkToPicture()

   With Dialogs(wdDialogInsertPicture)
      .Display ' Display dialog only, don't insert.
      If .Name <> "" Then ' If dialog not Canceled.
         ' Insert as linked file.
         ActiveDocument.InlineShapes.AddPicture _
            FileName:=.Name, LinkToFile:=True
      End If
   End With

End Sub
For more information about the AddPicture Method, in the Visual Basic Editor, click Microsoft Visual Basic Help on the Help menu, type "AddPicture" in the Office Assistant or the Answer Wizard, and then click Search to view the topic.
