PPT97: GoToSlide Method Uses Custom Show Slide Index

ID: Q183908

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you use the following method in a macro, a slide other than the one you expected may appear

   SlideShowWIndows(index).View.GotoSlide x

where x is the index value representing the slide you want to be displayed.

CAUSE

The GotoSlide method makes use of the current slide index. If you are using a custom slide show, the index values for the slides in the show will be used, not their default values.

GotoSlide is a method of the View property and therefore a method of the SlideShowWindows property. The index value of a slide depends entirely on whether or not a custom show is being used. If no custom show is being used, then the SlideShowWindow uses the default index values. However, if a custom show is used, then the SlideShowWindow object must use the index values as defined by the custom show.

If you are want to use a custom slide show and the GotoSlide method, use the correct custom show slide index value for the method to work. For example, let's say slide 25 is slide 4 in Custom Show 2. To have the GotoSlide method go to that slide, the code should look like this:

   SlideShowWindows(1).View.GotoSlide 4, msoTrue

Even though it has the slide index value of 25, it is the fourth slide in Custom Show 2. Therefore, you need to reference it that way.
