WD98: Run-time Error Getting Document Properties from Template

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to obtain document properties from a template using the Visual Basic for Applications MacroContainer object, the following error occurs:

   Run-time error '483': Object doesn't support this property or method.

This problem occurs if the template in which this macro is stored is included as a global add-in.

For example, the following sample Visual Basic for Applications macro will run successfully if the template is first opened in Word. However, this same macro will produce the run-time error message if the template in which it is located is included as a global add-in:

   Sub GetKeywords()
      MsgBox MacroContainer.BuiltInDocumentProperties(wdPropertyKeywords)
   End Sub

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, open your template or document prior to running the macro stored in your template or document.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
