XL97: Blank Line Inserted into Module

SYMPTOMS

When you open a Microsoft Excel workbook that contains a Visual Basic module, a blank line is inserted at the beginning of the module.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when all of the following conditions are true:

Your workbook contains a Visual Basic module.

    -and-
```
The workbook is in the Microsoft Excel 5.0/95 Workbook file format.
```
    -and-
```
You open the workbook in Microsoft Excel 97.
```
    -and-
```
You continue to save the workbook in the Microsoft Excel 5.0/95 Workbook file format.

Each time you save, close, and reopen your workbook, a new blank line is inserted at the top of the module.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
