FIX: Undo (CTRL+Z) Deletes Procedure Declarations

SYMPTOMS

Using the Undo operation, either by using the shortcut keys CTRL+Z or by choosing Undo from the Edit menu, causes procedure declarations to be deleted.


RESOLUTION

If this occurs, perform the Undo operation again to restore the deleted procedure declaration.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was corrected in Windows CE Toolkit for Visual Basic 6.0.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Start a new Windows CE project in Visual Basic 5.0. Form1 is created by default.


  2. Add two CommandButtons to Form1 (Command1 and Command2 by default).


  3. Double-click Command1 to create a Command1_Click event procedure.


  4. On the form, double-click Command2 to create a Command2_Click event procedure.


  5. In the Command2_Click event procedure, add the line of code "hello" without the quotes.


  6. Press the F5 key to run the project.


  7. Close the project (in the run-time environment).


  8. Add a letter, such as "x", to the end of "hello."


  9. Press the CTRL+Z key combination to undo the operation; the previously added character should be deleted.


  10. If you press CTRL+Z again, the entire Command1_Click procedure may be deleted.


  11. If you press CTRL+Z again, the Command1_Click procedure may return. NOTE: Continuing to press CTRL+Z may cause other procedures to be deleted and then returned.
